Stacy L. Henderson reclaims MPMA National Queen

Dr. Stacy L. Henderson, Crowned Montford Point Marine Association National Queen a Second Time

• Wednesday, August 20, 2014

After a whirlwind, year-long reign as the MPMA National Queen, 2013-14, Stacy reclaimed the title on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the 49th Annual MPMA National Convention in New Orleans, LA and will continue to reign until August 2015. Clearly dedicated to educating our youth and investing in their futures, she works diligently to raise much needed scholarship funds to give them every possible opportunity to excel. Having benefitted from various military tuition assistance programs and scholarships during her naval career, she has committed herself to giving back so that others may finance their education, as well. In addition, her children’s college education was financed as a result of her naval service. The Montford Point Marines changed the face of the Marine Corps in 1942 when they became the first African-Americans to join, opening the door for others, including her father, to serve in the Corps. She was inspired to follow in his footsteps and served in the Armed Forces – along with several other members of her family.

Stacy is a Life Member of the Chicago Chapter where Mrs. Sharon Stokes-Parry (USMC (Ret) is the Chapter President. Stacy’s Fundraising Campaign was challenging and rewarding; she raised funds for scholarships, the Montford Point Marines Memorial Monument, and several other veteran organizations as well. Her Chicago Chapter Fundraising Campaign Team consisted of: Sponsor – Eugene (Gene) Campbell (USMC Veteran); Campaign Coordinators Paul Knox, Jr. (USMC (Ret) and Mr. Clif Clemons (US Army (Ret); and her Queen Coronation Escort was Original Montford Point Marine Mr. Stanley Porter. The MPMA National Queen Contest Coordinator and Special Projects Officer is Mr. George O. Herring (USMC (Ret) of the MPMA San Diego Chapter. Dr. James T. Averhart, Jr., CWO4, USMC is the National President of the MPMA, Inc.

The National Montford Point Marine Association, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit veterans organization established to perpetuate the legacy of the Montford Point Marines. Their current charge is to erect a Memorial Monument for them. Stacy is a Fundraising Participant of the MPMA ‘Friends Asking Friends’ Campaign: www.montfordpointmarines.org. If you would like to donate to the monument fund, you may do so through her online campaign page or through individual and corporate donations, sponsorships, special fundraising programs and events. The National MPMA Monument Fundraising Directors James Carr, MPMA National Vice-President and Houston T. Shinal can be contacted at: Fundraisingdirector@montfordpointmarines.org. Thank you for ‘Preserving the Legacy’ of the Montford Point Marines.
